Commitment to Safety and COVID-19 Coronavirus Pandemic Prevention
Based on the rapid development of the COVID-19 pandemic, and in line with the recommendations and measures of the World Health Organization as well as the DISEASE PREVENTION AND CONTROL BUREAU – DOH, we are asking all our teams and programs to cancel any JAD+GTC related travels, events, and in-person meetings, unless they are held in accordance to the guidelines of WHO and their national health authorities.
To help slow the spread of the virus, we also advise social distancing — avoiding gatherings, public spaces, and generally limiting one’s movement — whenever possible. We encourage working from home if circumstances permit, and replacing all in-person meetings with video conferencing. This is part of an effort to “flatten the curve” of the pandemic and help minimize the number of active cases, thereby making sure health service is available to those who need it the most.
For those who have visited areas where COVID-19 has been spreading in the past 14 days, we recommend not only following WHO’s general guidelines, but also staying at home if unwell, even with mild symptoms, until recovery.
We do not expect huge disruptions in the work processes of JAD+GTC, as we are a global network run mostly by online collaboration. For those working closely with host institutions on the ground, we suggest following their advice and arrangement, as well as the guidelines of the respective national health authorities.
We as young people have an important role to play in ensuring good health and well-being for all, especially amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Besides taking everyday precautionary measures, we ask everyone to stay informed and share trusted information about COVID-19 with your community. We need more caution, but with reason, backed by facts, not fear.
We also ask those working closely with host institutions to share links to any funding or grants your university may have available for any students adversely affected by this.
While we stay at home, we can remain active online. Help spread verified facts. Encourage others in your community to take action informed by such facts. Together we can flatten the curve — and save lives.
